Exotics
Ian Calvert BSc BVSc MRCVS Cert Zoo Med
Ian is now working at our Chepstow surgery and specializes in exotic animals of all sorts from tortoises to parrots, birds of prey to snakes and lizards to fish, and all sorts between.
So if you've got an anorexic anaconda, a lethargic lizard, a fish with fungus on its fins, a poorly parrot, or a toucan with tummy ache, then Ian, who has a wide range of experiences of working with exotic pets will be happy to help.
So far his largest patient has been a 100kg Aldabran Tortoise, and the smallest a 12 gram Gecko.
Ian trained as a comparative Physiologist at London University and then taught in the Biology department of the Open University before moving to Bristol to join the Natural History Unit. Here he worked as a producer on the award winning 'Living Planet', 'Making a Continent' and 'Mind Machine' series before training as a Vet at Bristol University.
He's a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians and the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians and a founder member of the UK Exotic Vets Forum (a computer network that links vets working with exotics throughout the UK).

He was the Exotic animals Vet for the TV series 'People and Pets' where you may have seen him operating on Iguanas and Tortoises and had his own regular Phone-in spot on Radio Bristol.
He is also one of a select group of Vet Surgeons to have passed the exams to attain the Royal Veterinary College's Certificate in Zoological Medicine.
